What Improvements Qualify?

Customers will need to complete at least three home energy improvements to qualify for rebates. Improvements may include whole-home air sealing, HVAC replacement, duct sealing or replacement, attic insulation, and solar screen installation.

    For qualifying homes, customers can have a trusted energy advisor complete a visual in-home scoping review to identify the home’s opportunities for improvements and rebates.
  • Why is a new air conditioner not enough to keep my home energy efficient?
    A new air conditioner is just one part of maintaining an energy efficient home. Home Energy Savings can help identify other areas of improvement to seal up your home and optimize your heating and cooling system. These improvements will help keep your house cool in the summer and warm in the winter, which reduces your monthly energy use and costs.
  • How do I know if I can participate?
    If your home is more than ten years old and you have not participated in Home Energy Savings (previously Home Performance with ENERGY STAR) within the last ten years, you may be eligible to participate.   • How do I select a participating contractor?
    You can select from our list of participating contractors on the Home Energy Savings Find a Contractor tab.
  • What is the typical total project cost?
    Project costs vary based on each individual home’s needs. Austin Energy recommends contacting at least three different contractors for estimates.
  • What types of rebates and financing options available?
    Austin Energy offers rebates averaging $2,000 when you work with a participating contractor. Austin Energy also works with Velocity Credit Union to provide low-interest financing for Home Energy Savings projects. Please see the Home Energy Savings Eligibility tab for more details.
